Nature’s Hush

The first frost is closing in
covering the tattered trail.

Exposed roots are blanketed
by musty leaves floating to the forest floor.

Brisk air nips at the skin
extending the thin ice coverlet over the terrain.

A moose lingers at the stream’s edge
contemplating Summer’s end.

Nature hushes the sound of
life in this northern town.
